Senior HR Manager
Concertina is seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Senior HR Manager for our client in California. Our client is a well-established structural and seismic retrofit construction company that specializes in complex projects across multiple trades, including concrete, steel, and carpentry. This remote role supports both field and office teams, playing a critical part in leading HR operations and ensuring full compliance with California labor law. The ideal candidate has strong experience in HR for construction environments and a deep understanding of employment regulations in California.
Job Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:
- Lead end-to-end hiring for field and office positions including job postings, resume screening, interviews, background checks, and candidate selection.
- Manage onboarding processes and documentation; coordinate training schedules and ensure delivery and documentation of training content.
Timekeeping & Scheduling Oversight:
- Review timecards daily after initial review by Project Coordinator; resolve any discrepancies or missing submissions.
- Provide guidance on California sick leave policy and time-off practices.
- Monitor and verify daily workforce schedules using Sinc; coordinate corrections and approvals for time-off requests; send workforce updates via internal platforms.
Employee Records, Reviews & Relations:
- Maintain compliant personnel files including disciplinary documentation, PTO logs, and prior applicant tracking.
- Manage performance review cycles, promotions, concerns, and pay increase recommendations in coordination with leadership.
Benefits Administration:
- Administer medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits programs; manage open enrollment and renewals.
- Reconcile benefits monthly and validate broker accuracy; respond to employee benefits inquiries.
Safety & Workers’ Compensation:
- Coordinate documentation for workers' compensation claims, including post-termination cases.
- Ensure timely documentation of safety trainings and annual policy reviews (e.g., workplace safety, harassment, CPR/First Aid, IIPP, HSE).
HR Communications & Tools Adoption:
- Support HR communications and lead training for new tools such as WorkMax kiosks, timekeeping software, and scheduling platforms.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of progressive HR experience, ideally within construction or trades.
- Strong command of California employment law and regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting field operations, benefits management, WC coordination, and safety-related documentation.
- Familiarity with tools such as Sinc, WorkMax, Foundation (ERP), Salesforce, and Sortly.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and communication skills.
