Financial Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join an Australia-based group of businesses. Reporting to the CFO, you will own day-to-day financial accounting across multiple entities and brands, from month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations to audit readiness, cash visibility and the fixed asset register.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of financial accounting experience, is comfortable with multi-entity and intercompany work, and takes ownership of complete, accurate outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Own allocated month-end close activities across multiple entities: journals, accruals, prepayments and adjustments.
  • Complete intercompany accounting and reconciliations, and keep the general ledger accurate and complete.
  • Prepare monthly reporting inputs by entity, brand and cost centre, and investigate material P&L variances with clear commentary.
  • Own the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process, including bank, equipment finance, payroll clearing and provision accounts.
  • Investigate historical and aged balances, maintain a reconciliation register and track outstanding items to resolution.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation, and respond to external auditor requests on time.
  • Prepare and reconcile BAS/GST working papers and support tax compliance with external advisers.
  • Maintain daily visibility of operational cash across group bank accounts and keep short-term cash flow forecasts up to date.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register: acquisitions, capitalisations, disposals, depreciation and intercompany transfers, reconciled to the general ledger.
  • Reconcile inventory and work-in-progress balances.
  • Act as the first point of contact for general ledger, coding and accounting treatment queries from the accounts team.
  • Improve month-end checklists, reconciliation templates and procedures, and support data validation during an ERP transition.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including financial accounting and month-end close.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Strong grasp of accrual accounting, journals, general ledger management and financial reporting.
  • Experience with multiple entities, intercompany transactions and high-volume transactions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with accounting or ERP systems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Able to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Strongly Preferred:

  • CPA, CA, ACCA or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working with Australian businesses or Australian accounting practices.
  • Working knowledge of Australian GST and BAS requirements.
  • Experience supporting external financial audits.
  • Experience with ERP transitions (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central / Wiise) or accounting process improvements.
  • Background in rental, distribution, manufacturing, equipment or multi-site businesses.

Requirements:

  • Updated Resume/CV.
  • Available to work Australian business hours.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Reliable internet connection and personal computer.
  • UPS/battery backup to ensure continuity during power interruptions.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary.
  • WFH set-up.
  • Career advancement opportunities.
  • HMO.
