Bookkeeper

Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and performing a range of accounting tasks. This role involves organizing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, generating financial reports, and ensuring compliance with Australian tax laws. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional numerical skills, proficiency in accounting software, and the ability to work Australian hours, including overlapping with European time zones to coordinate with the head office.

Responsibilities:
  • Accurately record financial transactions in a timely manner using accounting software such as Xero.
  • Reconcile bank statements to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial accounts.
  • Prepare and send invoices to clients while diligently following up on outstanding payments.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable efficiently and promptly.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare precise journal entries.
  • Assist with payroll processing, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian regulations.
  • Generate comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in budget preparation and actively monitor financial performance against targets.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure financial compliance and accuracy.
  • Ensure adherence to Australian tax laws and regulations, including GST and BAS reporting requirements.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian tax laws and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all financial matters.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Certification such as Certified Bookkeeper (CB) is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Adaptability to new technologies and accounting software.
  • Problem-solving skills to address financial discrepancies promptly.
  • Familiarity with tax preparation processes is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role.
  • Flexibility to work Australian hours, starting at 11 AM to facilitate collaboration with the European head office.
  • Ability to work additional hours during peak periods as needed.
